Kincardine-in-Menteith Cemetery is located within walking distance of the road from Doune to Callander. Nearby is Doune Castle, and about nine miles from Doune Castle, is Lake Menteith, the only "lake" in Scotland. On the largest of the lake's three islands are the remains of Inchmahome Priory, founded in 1238.

The name Menteith, or Monteith, is applied generally to that part of the county lying to the south of Port of Menteith towards the River Forth. Clans associated with this area are the Grahams of Menteith. Also, the Earl of Menteith was the Scottish noble who betrayed William Wallace, "Breaveheart" to the English.
